The recent report by London’s Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) is a startling revelation of “Old habits die hard”. If it is and if true, it will not be the likely outcome that the population of Bangladesh anticipated. Years of misrule and corruption has ruined this country and going back to the same hartals, strike, party bickering, lame leadership, nepotism will be a bad precedent for the future generation of this country.

Both the leading political parties of AL and BNP, are lead by corrupt politicians, who are being sent to jail for their role in the day to day corruption and nepotism. Both parties do not practice any kind of democratic principles in their party behaviors even though it is enshrined in their party manifestation. The single handedness of these leaders are rampant everywhere and honest party followers are embarrassed & disoriented. Nevertheless they stick to their old parties out of their whims and finding no other alternatives.

The current CTG of Jan 11, 2007 have given hope to these honest people. They are looking for changes that will be good for this countries future and lead this country to the kind of prosperity and dream they were hoping for. The activities of the CTG are highly regarded and respected even though their handling of the price of essentials are not well respected ( which have risen worldwide). The formation of Independent Election Commission, Reorganization of Public Service Commission, Anti Corruption Commission, National Voter ID card, Privatization of Biman, separation of Judiciary from the executive, Oil and gas exploration, record employment of people overseas, Better business bureau, quick passport services, record Foreign Investment & Aid, are the major achievements of this Current Caretaker Government.

Despite all those remarkable accomplishments the main problem still persists that is the reform of the political parties and their democratic practices. The world hopes that the CTG will reinvigorate their role in this regard and bring necessary changes to the political structure of this poor country. Otherwise we will end up as the EIU has predicted and all hopes will be lost for the future generations.
