Statistics of Bangladesh in USA

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009 by admin

Bangladeshi’s are immigrating to USA every year, but their number is very small compare to India, Mexico or other countries. According to the latest Census American Community Survey of 2008, last year approximately 1860 people of Bangladeshi Origin were added to the USA population list. The list has  margin of error of +/- 9889. Of these, 79,184 are naturalized USA citizens. In 2007, median age of the people was 36.9 years and in 2008, the median age increased to 38 years.

Of the total population in USA in 2008, 54.9 percent was male and 45.1 percent was female, which was 53.8 percent and 46.2 percent in the previous year. Of the total Bangladeshi population, 67.7% are in the labor force and only 4.1 percent are unemployed, which is better than the national rate, which was 4.2 percent in 2008.

In 2008, the median household income of Bangladeshi family increases by 5586 dollars which was 45,033 dollars in 2007 and 50,619 dollars in 2008. The national average family household income in USA was 52,029 dollars in 2008. That means, on average Bangladeshi’s are doing fairly well compare to the national average household income. The per capita income of Individual Bangladeshi’s was 25, 546 dollars and nationwide USA average was 27, 589 dollars.

In 2008, the average family size of Bangladeshi family was 4.11, which was higher than the national average of 3.22. Nevertheless, the family size declined by whopping .06 which was 4.17 in 2007. That means the average family size of Bangladeshi’s had shrinked while the average family size in USA increased by .02 in 2008.

Comparing to India and Pakistan, Bangladeshi’s position is relatively small in USA. India has a individual per capita income of 50,258 dollars and Pakistan has 36,135 dollars in 2008. Both of  these countries median family household income is a lot higher, which was for India 93,731 dollars and Pakistan 65,036 dollars. On the education level above 25 years of age, India has a lot higher rate with Bachelor degree of 33.5 percent and Graduate degree of 40.6 percent. Bangladesh has only 29 percent and 20.2 percent respectively.

Historically in USA, the higher your income level, the higher your participation & influence in the administration activities of USA and the more notice you get from the USA government. In order to be noticed by the USA administration, Bangladeshi’s needs to increase their per capita income, education and also their population numbers, which will in turn raise their status to the USA Administration.

KFC in Bangladesh

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 by uddin

KFC Great news for all those chicken lovers. KFC of USA is finally in Bangladesh . This opening will put Bangladesh on the map of KFC, USA and show the world that Bangladesh is open for business and business friendly. How ever the price of the Chicken KFC chicken wings are very high compare to even USA price. A 12 piece of KFC chicken wings are selling for 920 taka, that’s almost dollar 13.50.

When most of the people of Bangladesh lives on less than dollar a day, prices like these is quite ridiculous and outrageous. Even in USA the price can not be more than 10 dollars for a bucket of that size, that comes up to 680 taka based on today’s exchange rate. I guess the only people who can buy these are the rich persons, who are as we know are mostly corrupt or crooked. There is no sympathy for the poor who can also dream to have KFC someday. Situations like this encourages more corruption and nepotism and are a breeding ground for trouble.  No wonder Bangladesh is the most crooked country of the world. My only wish is that the management of the company would think about the average people and put the price within their reach.

Nuclear Energy for Bangladesh

Thursday, February 19th, 2009 by admin

Bangladesh is suffering from acute shortage of electricity and power. The development of the country, industrialization of Chittagong, Khulna, Dhaka, northern districts and export processing zones are hampered due to the low electricity generation. As an average it is estimated that Bangladesh is loosing out almost 1 percent of its GDP growth to this nuisance.  Bangladesh is also suffering from shortages of almost 220 mmcfd of gas against the demand of 2200 mmcfd. The coal extraction is also being hampered due to the nasty politicization by some so called save oil and gas committee. In this situation the country has no alternative but to go for the Nuclear energy for getting it self out of this misery. China and Russia showed their keen interest to construct Nuclear Power plants in Bangladesh. South Korea even wanted to pay 60% of the cost for the construction of a nuclear power plant. Bangladesh should take upon this opportunity and start constructing 3/4 nuclear power plants for augmenting its power and also for future electricity use. It will help the future generation from the shortage of electricity and help its industry to a great extend.
The country could take the public-private investment initiative and start constructing the Nuclear Power plant within a very short time. The investors are ready and willing to help, all the country needs is a great will to succeed and to move forward.

Untangling the Economy of USA

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009 by choudhury

Every day more and more of Americans are getting laid off and the burden is falling on the Obama Administration to fix the economic problems that was left by the Bush government. The recent stimulus plan that is circulating in the senate and house floors has some good additions. As it stands now, tax cuts account for about $252 billion of its $885 billion total cost, according to an analysis of the Senate bill released by the Congressional Budget Office on Monday.

The plan also comprises of a tax cut for everyone, Of this, $142 billion would go for Obama’s “Making Work Pay” tax credit for individuals. This credit – up to $500 a year for individuals and $1,000 for two-income couples – would fulfill Obama’s campaign pledge of tax relief for low- and middle-income workers. The full amount would be limited to individuals who make $75,000 or less and couples making $150,000 or less. Other individual income-tax provisions contained in the Senate version of the stimulus package include an increase in the earned income-tax credit, estimated to cost $4.7 billion; a $13 billion education tax credit; the first-time home buyer credit, which would cost at least $2.6 billion; and the $70 billion AMT adjustment.

The stimulus package also includes general business tax breaks that would total more than $35 billion.
Small businesses would be able to increase the dollar amount of expenses they could write off from $125,000 to $250,000 for 2009 and 2010, for instance. Businesses would have an increased ability to apply recent losses against past and future tax bills.
All these are good news but on the spending side. There are some provisions of tax cuts that will also cost the government around $70 billion.
The tax cut and spending can and might do good for the economy but the more pressing and long term needs must be accounted for. As an example and for more selling of our goods we should also think about the followings:

1. Open up the Aircraft market specially Boeing for Iran and China to procure. They have recently shown interest to buy American planes.
2. Bring the soldiers from Iraq home as soon as possible. Bring atleast 50% now and rest next year. We are spending around 20/30 billion dollars each month to support our soldiers and this will free up those money for other areas.
3. Stop issuing H1 visas for atleast 2 years so that the companies can hire more American laid off workers. The H1 visa quotas can be given to the family category, so that American Citizens can bring their relatives fast instead of waiting year after year. Average Americans have to wait at least 2-4 years to be united with their family (siblings) which is ridiculous.
4. Give legalization to millions of illegals who will pour in millions of dollars in American economy. Study shows the last legalization by Reagan increased US economic GDP by atleast couple of percent to as high as 10 percent.
5. Stop economic embargo of Cuba. Cuba can be a closer and eager market for our products.
6. Employ Export Import bank of USA to market American products abroad. There are lots of American products that have eager markets and we just need to market those.

I am sure there are others. But if we can at least try to concentrate on there, I am sure the economy of USA will rebound to a great extend.
